Case study – Cotteswold Dairy

Free Range Dairy Cotteswold

Cotteswold Dairy is an independent family-run business with a strong Cotswolds heritage that was founded by Harry Workman in 1938 and is now a thriving independent family business run by the third generation of the Workman family, employing over 350 staff.

Quality, Service and Cleanliness were values installed in Harry when the Dairy started and they are still adhered to today.  The dairy retains a good reputation and in 2015, Cotteswold Dairy was awarded Family Business of the Year by Food and Farming Awards at the House of Commons.

We specialise in processing a variety of milk and cream products, and are delighted to be introducing Free Range Milk in our range.  This is a great opportunity in the market place and allows customers choice in the milk that they buy.  Look out for our bottles with our branding on and Pasture Promise logo!

Free Range Dairy Cotteswold DairyWe pride ourselves on working alongside our local farming community, who are all located within a 50 mile radius of our site.   Working with local farmers is important to the dairy, to guarantee their supply of milk is fresh and of the highest quality. Our Free Range Milk is collected separately from a handful of carefully selected farmers, all within 15 miles of our processing site, who adhere to strict Free Range Dairy standards.

The farms that supply Free Range Milk are independently assessed as part of a farm assurance scheme and are members of an organisation called Free Range Dairy CIC, which works to keep cows in fields and provide consumers with a more informed choice about the milk they buy.

Farmers attend producer meetings on site which aim to provide a better understanding of the business and technical and quality requirements.  These are well supported and continue to thrive.

We supply direct to wholesale suppliers, retailers and to household doorsteps and offices.  With our own chilled distribution chain, it ensures a fast and efficient delivery service that maintains quality and freshness of all our products right up to the point of sale.  Our business has grown by adhering to values of real service to the customer and excellence products.  On average we process 200,000 litres of milk on a daily basis and 55,000 litres of cream per week.

Free Range Dairy Cotteswold DairyWe support a number of local charities as we feel this helps give back to the community which has supported us for so many years and we are passionate to keep developing the business.

The Dairy industry is still a very challenging place, but Cotteswold is committed to its family values and this will help us maintain a strong presence as we continue to grow and develop the business to keep producing high quality products and first class service.
