Free Range Dairy |Andrew AyrtonFarmers producing milk under the Pasture Promise label are members of our Community Interest Company (CIC), who want to win recognition for their commitment to grazing cows in fields. We want to offer farmers the chance to capture the true value of their milk at the farm gate.

Free Range Dairy farmers are required to keep records to show they have sufficient grass available to feed their cows throughout the grazing season. They are all Red Tractor accredited and their compliance with our standards is assessed by an independent audit body.

We work with our farmers to promote simple, pasture based farming that makes good use of the green grass we grow in abundance in the UK. We do not believe it is necessary for farmers to pursue high milk yields in order to make milk production economically viable on farms and we work to promote value over volume. By defining the value in the farming system that delivers your milk, we can help farmers to enjoy a welcome alternative to the relentless pursuit of more and more output.

Although the farms are not organic, we work with Free Range Dairy farmers to reduce reliance on imported feeds, artificial fertilisers and antibiotics. We are establishing a network of likeminded producers who can share knowledge to improve practice on farms.

Farmers need to make a profit to be able to reinvest in their farms and take proper care of their animals. We ask milk buyers to pass a premium back to Free Range Dairy farmers. So, the delivery of free range milk under the Pasture Promise label is all about collaboration, bringing farmers, processors and others in the supply chain together, to ensure we create a viable proposition for all concerned.
